'Market', Compostable Cornstarch, Vegetable Dyes from Kitchen Waste, Water Miscible Oils, Silk, Vegetable Seeds, 300x200cm, 2021, shown installed in 'Womxn' at Unit 1 Gallery Workshop (hanging, photos courtesy of Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop, Paul Tucker, 2022') and in 'SuperNature' at White Conduit Projects (shown acting as a lightbox). The work began with an image from above of 150 year old Chapel Market, close to White Conduit Projects and often used by the artist. Much of the kitchen waste used to make dyes comes from food from 'rescue boxes' from the market, produce that would otherwise be discarded. Seeds embedded in the work come from vegetables both from the market and grown by the artist and saved for future planting. 'I wanted to think about the abstract nature of a market where prices rise and fall and affect every day life, and the actual vegetables that might be grown from the seeds to feed us', Liz Elton
